During 2008, there were several cases in both the American and European markets of grow tents using defective materials. The problem affected a wide group of stores and resellers, ourselves included. At Telegrow we were fortunate that this problem affected only a very small amount of our products, (less than 10 cases from thousands of grow tents sold (This represents a percentage lower than 0.01%).
The problem with affected grow tent has proven to be very difficult to identify as it was not something which is visually obvious (as a tear or missing piece would be). Even affected grow tents appeared to be perfectly functional, however for the affected tents cultivation was very difficult and some times impossible. The origin of the problem appeared to be in the manufacturing of the tent materials in china; this explains the diversity of products and countries affected.
Because of the origin of the problem, it affected everyone, the manufacturers, distributors, retailers and finally the clients. It is the manufacturers who are ultimately responsible for the manufacturing faults. However as the store that sold the product it is we who must face the clients and amend the problem by way of refund or replacement. With that said at Telegrow we have always prided ourselves on going further than our minimum obligations. For this reason and to be sure the problem will not reoccur we took the following measures.

- As a company we have a prestigious ISO 9001 certification of quality in our working practice. This is a certification which must be renewed annually and for which we must undergo rigorous audits throughout the year. We are proud to say that are the only European company in this sector to have obtained it.
- As a repercussion we stopped selling products in our range which had displayed any problems (1.95x1.95x1.95m and 2.4x1.2x2m) and replaced them with an alternative product. We did this despite knowing it was an exaggerated measure given the small percentage of effected products.
- We became an associate of AITEX, (textile technological Institute) in order to obtain expert advice and analysis.
- We commissioned two tests, the Determination of forbidden AZO colorants (Cancerognic Arylamines) and the Migration of Certain Elements to every grow tent in our catalogue. With this we can provide the assurance and peace of mind that our clients deserve when making a purchase from us.
The tests conducted are the same as those conducted to assess the safety of toys (EN71: 1994/3), these tests were used as tests specifically relating to plants and indoor cultivation do not currently exist.
All test results include copies of the test sample (tent material) and the resulting certificates are available on our website, and as you would expect of us, we stock only grow tents which have been tested and passed. |
